Terms of Use
Last updated: October 12, 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Cosmic Pulse ("Cosmic Pulse", "we", "us", or "our") governing your use of the ReelQuest mobile app, the reelquest.fishing website, and any related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, accepting these Terms in the app, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Regulations are for reference only. You must verify them.
ReelQuest presents summaries of fishing regulations to help you plan. This information is provided for general reference only and may be incomplete, out of date, or incorrect.
It is your responsibility to confirm the current, official regulations before you fish. The authoritative source for Ontario fishing regulations is the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (and the applicable government authority for any other area). Regulations change, vary by location and season, and may include exceptions that ReelQuest does not capture.
The regulations in ReelQuest are meant as a convenient reference only, and are neither a legal document nor a complete collection of the current laws. For details on the current rules, refer to the federal Fisheries Act, Aquatic Invasive Species Regulations, Ontario Fishery Regulations, Variation Orders and Species at Risk Act, as well as the provincial Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and regulations, Invasive Species Act and regulations, and Endangered Species Act.
Questions about the rules can go to Ontario's Natural Resources Information and Support Centre (NRISC): 1-800-387-7011 or NRISC@ontario.ca.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cosmic Pulse is not responsible or liable for any incorrect, inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated regulation information in the Service, or for any fines, penalties, charges, losses, or other consequences arising from your reliance on it. You are solely responsible for fishing legally and for verifying limits, seasons, sanctuaries, gear rules, licensing, and any other requirement that applies to you.
Ask answers
The Ask feature uses an AI model to read your question. A rules answer is built from the same regulation information as the rest of the app, and section 1 applies to it in full. The model can misread a question (for example the wrong lake, fish or date), so check that the answer is for the water, species and day you meant. When Ask cannot tell whether bait or gear is allowed, it shows the rules for you to check instead of an answer.
General tips (technique, gear, conditions, safety) are written by the AI model, are not regulations, and may be wrong. Never rely on them for your safety, including ice and water conditions, or to decide whether something is legal.
Ask may limit how many questions you can ask each day, and we may change that limit. Using automated means to ask questions, or trying to make Ask produce content unrelated to fishing, is not allowed.
2. The Service may change
The Service is provided "as is" and may contain bugs, gaps, or errors, and may change or stop working at any time. Features described here or in the app may change or be removed. Do not rely on the Service for any safety-critical or legally-critical decision.
3. Your account and eligibility
You need an account (Apple, Google, or email) to use most features. You are responsible for the activity under your account and for keeping your credentials secure. You must be the age of majority in your province or territory, or have the consent of a parent or guardian, to use the Service.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to encourage or assist unlawful fishing;
- submit false, misleading, or infringing content;
- attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer, scrape at scale, or gain unauthorized access to the Service, including trying to get around Ask's limits or safeguards; or
- misuse another person's account or data.
5. Your content
You may create content in the Service, such as logged catches, notes, and photos ("Your Content"). You keep ownership of Your Content. You grant Cosmic Pulse a non-exclusive licence to host, store, and display Your Content for the purpose of operating and improving the Service. You are responsible for Your Content and confirm you have the right to submit it.
6. Intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, text, and branding, is owned by Cosmic Pulse and protected by law. These Terms do not grant you any right to our trademarks or branding. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service in accordance with these Terms.
Third-party and government data. Some information in the Service, including fishing regulation summaries and fish sanctuary locations, is derived from data published by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and other government sources. That source data remains the property of its owners; ReelQuest reproduces and summarizes it as a convenience only. For the current, official regulations, see ontario.ca/fishing. Waterbody, zone boundary, and sanctuary map data contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Ontario.
7. No warranty
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that any information in it (including regulations) is accurate or current.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Cosmic Pulse and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or fines and penalties, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Service, including any reliance on regulation information. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed CAD $50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. In that case, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.
9. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold Cosmic Pulse harmless from any claims, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of a third party.
10. Changes to the Service and these Terms
We may change, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time. We may also update these Terms. If we make a material change, we will take reasonable steps to notify you, such as by email to the address on your account. Your continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Ontario for any dispute that is not otherwise resolved.
13. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information and is part of your agreement with us.
